tryptophan (500 mg 2x/day between meals with vitamins C and B6) to increase serotonin
inositol (1-1/2 tsp 3x/day with meals)
phosphatidylcholine or CDPcholine
folic acid and B12 will supposedly increase histamine body stores
"pyroluria"
pyrroles are byproducts of hemoglobin synthesis that bind to aldehydes including B6 (pyridoxine), causing their excretion along with the pyrroles, so impaired hemoglobin synthesis could theoretically result in excessive pyrrole production with resulting severe B6 deficiency. The combination of B6 and pyrroles also bind to zinc, similarly causing its excretion, so a zinc deficiency could also result.
associated with fair skin, easy sun-burning, photosensitivity (eyes)
abnormal fat distribution
unexplained chills and fever
fearfulness
poor dream recall
nightmares
crowded upper front teeth
upper abdominal, splenic pain (e.g., side "stitch" when running)
poor formation of knee cartilage causing cracking sounds and aches
over-reaction to drugs
poor stress response
cold hands and/or feet
fatigue
nausea
purported causes of pyroluria
B6 deficiency
co-enzyme for 50+ enzymatic reactions in brain
deficiency causes depletion of dopamine and serotonin with resulting ongoing anxiety and depression
slows conversion of pyruvate to lactic acid so deficiency results in elevated lactic acid which creates anxiety neurosis because it binds with calcium which then can't regulate the balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters
treatment
magnesium (raises pyruvate levels)
calcium and niacin - enhance conversion of lactate to pyruvate
pyruvate - can also promote weight (fat) loss, energy metabolism and endurance (5 g/day)
Zinc deficiency
anxiety
depression
irritability
fatigue
apathy
amnesia
poor tooth enamel
stretch marks
sweet, fruity odor (trans-3-methyl-2-hexanoic acid) to breath and sweat, especially when feverish or stressed
hypoadrenocorticism (adrenal exhaustion; treatment - vitamin C and pantothenic acid)
poor immune functioning
poor growth
poor sexual development
poor brain development
poor appetite
poor sense of taste and smell
anorexia nervosa
buildup of toxic metals, particularly copper, lead, cadmium, and mercury
elevated lead - learning disabilities and behavioral disorders, including criminal behavior
elevated mercury - anxiety, emotional liability, exaggerated responses and insomnia
elevated cadmium - hyperactivity, hallucinations, central nervous system toxicity
white spots on fingernails, opaquely white nails, thin nails, nail biting/tearing
treatment
pyridoxine (B-6) and the phosphatidal-5-phosphate form of B-6
zinc
niacinamide (vitamin B-3) - B6 is required to make niacin from tryptophan, so niacin deficiency can occurs in pyroluria, causing pellagra-like symptoms
vitamin C and pantothenic acid for adrenals
magnesium - can be depleted by large amounts of B6 resulting in sound hypersensitivity, irritability, and involuntary urination; supplement at one-half dosage of B6
manganese is typically depleted and will be further reduced by zinc supplementation
inositol - regulates serotonin within nerve cells
for panic disorder, 12 g/day (4 g (1-1/2 tsp)/each meal.
Autistic-like traits
Depression
tryptophan (precursor to serotonin)
low prostaglandin E1 (PGE1, derived from omega 6 EFAs)
elevated blood histamine (see above)
OCD-like behaviors
elevated blood histamine (see above)
inositol - 18 g/3x day worked as well as Prozac and Luvox for OCD
results in elevated dopamine, causing thought disorders and hallucinations
reduced pain sensations
hypo-allergic
poor sleep
hyperactive
short attention span
agitation
temper tantrums
fair skinned
strong immune system
treatment
high protein diet to provide histadine (which converts to histamine)
Paranoia
hypoglycemia (see above)
low histamine (see above)
elevated copper
nervous stimulant; part of enzymes that regulate histamine, so too much copper facilitates histamine degradation with the resulting lowered histamine levels in turn allowing more copper to accumulate
symptoms
restlessness
insomnia
violence
depression
irritability
disorientation
paranoia
high blood pressure
hearing loss
dry mouth
hypersomnia
low libido
treatment
zinc, manganese, niacin (B3) and vitamin C supplementation
avoidance of copper-containing multivitamins
other
those with Type A blood are more susceptible to copper sequestration
General psychiatric signs of B vitamin deficiencies
